Want to cut your production time in half? Then ditch the paper and pencils and go digital!

This picture made me laugh when I saw it!  But yes!  We tailors now use laptops!  😀 I spoke about it on our radio show on 98.9 Kiss FM on Friday and you should watch it!  I tell you this is the way to go!

Ok… so I realized that whilst promoting this Course (and I must confess, I don’t think I really promoted it that much), I never really spoke about the benefits of the Course.  So you are probably thinking… “why go digital when I can use my pencil and paper” right?

Ok… check out this scenario…

Example of a Digital Pattern and the Sewn Outfit

You make clothes for people and draft your patterns manually.  Imagine if you could do this on the system just once!  And next time someone else comes, you input their measurements and voila, the pattern comes out in their own size!

OR you run an in-house clothing production unit creating clothes in standard sizes.  Oh… imagine the torture of having to grade each pattern one by one when with just a few strokes, your work is done!

I can safely speak for myself when I say I have to be physically and psychologically prepared for pattern-making!  Having to search for paper, pencils, erasers and all what not or WORSE discover that I am out of paper is like the worst thing!  But now… you can simply work on your dining table in front of the TV.  Life does not have to be so tough anymore! 😀

And this is just a SNAP SHOT of what this course has to offer!  You can work across international boundaries as well.  I have 2 people who have reached out to me asking me to create patterns for them.  So this is you starting a new career as a pattern maker!

Okies so ditch the pencils and paper and switch to digital patterns on your laptop!  And save yourself the headache and backache as well!  Register for our Pattern-Making & Grading with Computer-Aided Design.

Please click on this link to watch the video about me talking about this Course.  It starts from 1:20

SO details about the Course?!  I’ll give it to you just now!

The course begins on Tuesday 4th of July 2017 and it will hold on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am – 2pm.  It is in 2 parts:

Part 1 is the Pattern Making bit.  It lasts for 5 weeks and costs N80,000 including your training materials except, of course, your laptop.  That you need to come with.

Part 2 is the Pattern Grading bit which is where you increase or reduce in size.  This will last an extra 3 weeks and costs N40,000 if you registered for Part 1.

If you want just this part of the Course, it will cost N50,000 and it includes your training materials.  But to be honest, this limits you to just the manual grading portion because we can’t start teaching you about the digital workspace in Part 1. Please bring your laptop.  Oh… if you use a Mac please contact us before you register.

And that’s it really!  Easy peasy!  Trust me you will love this Course!

Registration is easy!  Simply pay the fees by bank or online transfer into the Martwayne Limited 023 710 3843 account in any GTBank OR

Counting Down to Pattern Making with Computer Aided Design Course

Counting Down to Pattern Making with Computer Aided Design Course

Just think about the appeal of saving yourself half the time spent on manual patterns by doing them digitally.  And better still, work across international boundaries.  All you need is your laptop and you are good to go!  Save the paper, minimize your errors, correct your mistakes without getting overwhelmed!  Learn all this and more in our new Course Pattern-Making & Grading with Computer Aided Design.  Trust me, it will be well worth your while!

Pattern Making & Grading with Computer Aided Design Course starts 13 June 2017. Registration has started!!!!!

Pattern Making & Grading with Computer Aided Design Course starts 13 June 2017. Registration has started!!!!!

And YET another brand spanking new course from us at Martwayne!  Yes – this Course I tell you is off the hook!  Are you thinking of starting your own ready to wear line in standard sizes?!  Well it’s time to ditch the manual techniques and go digital with our brand new Course – the Pattern Drafting & Grading with Computer-Aided Design!  Just think about it!  Cut your production process in half by digitizing your patterns and save yourself the time and energy by cutting out the manual grading and going digital with a computer software!  You can easily create several sizes just from one pattern just from a few strokes on your laptop!  I tell you this is the new ISH and I am so excited about it!

Let me tell you all about the Course…

Ok so you know the best ideas stem from some form of frustration right?!  Well I can tell you, we got to that stage with the production center.  After creating the pattern, Round 2 of the stress comes from  grading the patterns, i.e. increasing or reducing the sizes manually.  And we thought, if we are facing this problem, other designers must be facing it as well!  And I tell you, creating patterns on a laptop is so much fun!  Cuts out all the standing and paper and all.  And if you make a mistake, simply delete that line!

But of course, we cannot totally rule out manual pattern making.  Some of us are still old school BUT the best part is, you can digitize your manual patterns and do whatever you want to do to them. And this course teaches you just that!  Headache solved from all angles!

Or just imagine creating an awesome design and someone wants one.  Why start from scratch?!  Simply digitize the pattern and customize it to that person’s

So How will It Run?!

The Course is in 2 parts:

Part 1: Pattern Drafting; and
Part 2: Pattern Grading

The Part 2 includes both manual grading and digital grading!  We split it so participants who want to learn just the manual grading bit can also join us.

What Will You Learn?

Well for one I can tell you it will be a packed course.  You will learn how to use the software environment, how to draft your blocks using the software, how to digitize patterns, dart manipulation, panels, gathers, pleats, etc and of course grading!  And that really is me just giving you a snapshot.  Trust me, anyone who registers for our courses can confirm they are packed with information overload!  But please note that this Course is only open to those with a prior knowledge of pattern making and it is not a sewing class.

When Will it Begin?

Tuesday 13 June 2017 and will run on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10am – 2pm.

Weekend students, not to worry, we promise to come up with a weekend option right after this one so please be patient with us.

Duration & Course Fees:

Pattern Drafting: 5 weeks; N80, 000
Pattern Grading: additional 3 weeks; additional N40, 000

If you want to learn the manual grading only, this will be N50, 000 and will last 2 weeks.

If you want to register for Part 2 only (both the manual and digital grading), that will be N60,000.

All fees include the training materials but you need your laptop!

Benefits of the Course:

Well for one, everyone needs a pattern maker!  A perfect pattern begets a perfect outfit! So really with this Course, you can easily create a 2nd income for yourself.

And the best part is, going digital opens you up to a global market since customers can outsource their patterns to you to either create from scratch or grade them.  You can simply mail the finished result to them without having to bother about mailing pieces of pattern paper and worrying about courier costs.

I can tell you that so far, with the factory we set up, communicating and getting the required technical drawings has been a breeze.  All the work is done electronically so makes life easier for everyone.

So trust me when I say, going digital is really the way to go!

How to Register:

Learn Fashion Design, Fashion Illustration & Computer-Aided Design this February @ Martwayne and take your love for fashion to the next level!

Learn Fashion Design, Fashion Illustration & Computer-Aided Design this February @ Martwayne and take your love for fashion to the next level!

This month, we are teaching the CREATIVE side of fashion and our first and really popular course is the Design, Fashion Illustration with Computer-Aided Design Course.  This Course is perfect for you if you love fashion and want to explore your inner creativity.

–  Have you always wondered how people come up with the most amazing designs?

OR

–  Do you have all these awesome ideas but just cannot seem to put them on paper?

OR

– Maybe you are tired of copying people’s designs and want to come up with yours so people can patronize your work.

OR worse…

– Your tailors keep wrecking your ideas because no matter how much you “explain” it to them, they just cannot seem to get it?!

OR

–  You keep getting cut out of the final shortlist of candidates in that fashion competition because your fashion sketches were not up to par.

If you fall into any of these categories (and trust me, the list is even longer than this), then this Course is for you!  This Course focuses on the real ART of fashion design!  Yes!  This is where the work really is!

So if you are on the verge of entering for competitions, applying to fashion schools, starting your fashion business and/or meeting with customers OR you have questions like:

–  I am not creative, can I start a fashion business?

–  I applied to a fashion school but I was asked to submit a portfolio, what is that?!

–  Why do my tailors keep spoiling my work?

–  How do people come up with all these amazing designs?

FRET NOT!  You are in the right place!  And the best part is, we teach FROM SCRATCH!  So whether you are a complete beginner OR you are a good illustrator but wish to enhance your skills, this Course is for you!

Goodness!  Wouldn’t you love to learn how to draw like this?!

I often tell people that if customers give you a magazine to copy, then I doubt they consider you a designer at all.  And that is where a lot of designers I chat to have found themselves.  And this is simply because, without a portfolio, you cannot get your customers to choose from your designs.  It is just that simple!

To really succeed as a fashion designer or start a clothing line, you need to learn how to sketch, how to develop portfolios, how to develop collections and how to defend them!  Operating as a designer definitely earns you more respect from your customers and also get them to choose from your designs.  And this Course is here to teach you just that!  😀

So What Will You Learn?

The Course in in 3 parts!  Yes!  One Course, 3 different parts!

Part 1: Design, Concept Development & Portfolio Presentation

Here you will learn the following:

–  how to develop your designs from an idea or a concept;
–  the design and production process;
–  how to choose colors and fabrics;
–  how to create technical drawings which you will use to communicate your ideas to your tailor to minimize errors;
–  how to develop the documentation required in a design project;
–  how to create moodboards, concept boards and storyboards; and
–  how to develop and defend your fashion collection.

Part 2: Manual Illustration

–  Drawing the Fashion Figure;
–  Body & Spinal Movements;
–  Facial Features & Hair;
–  Clothing the Fashion Figure.

Part 3:  Digital Illustration with Computer-Aided Design

This is the portion where you learn how to perform the magic on your designs using CAD – turning your manual illustrations from drab to fab!

And you know what the best part is?!  You can choose to do all 3 parts (which is of course what I would advise) OR decide which of the parts you want to learn based on your level of experience, your finances or your time.

So say, for example, you already know how to sketch beautifully but all you want to learn is how to use CAD to add that extra oomph to your designs, you can just register for Part 3!  Yes!  It is really that simple!  Why pay to learn what you already know right?!

SO what are the benefits of the Course you ask?!
You are actually on your way to starting a new career in fashion illustration,  establishing yourself as a fashion illustrator who designers can patronize!  Easy!  So really, you will make your money back easy!

So the Course goes beyond just you learning how to draw!  It helps you know who you really are as a fashion designer and if you love fashion sketching, then you can easily establish yourself as one!  PLUS you also learn the value of learning from constructive criticism.  Trust me the Course is the ISH!
