Word of mouth marketing entails not just getting customers to talk about your brand, but also turning them into brand evangelists.β β
β β
Furthermore, word of mouth marketing will also help your business with free advertising, grow at a much faster rate, boost your sales and increase brand loyalty.β If you’re interested in exploring word of mouth marketing, here are three strategies you can implement;β β
β β 1. Invest in customer experienceβ β
Word of mouth marketing tactics is powered by customer recommendations. The best way to get these recommendations is by giving them an experience worth talking about. Talk to your customers, listen to their concerns, answer their questions promptly, and you could turn even skeptics into brand advocates.β β
β β 2. Reward loyaltyβ β
One of the most effective word of mouth marketing strategy is rewarding loyal customers. You could give your customers special offers or exclusive content that would make them feel special. Capitalize on their loyaltyby making them want to share their great experiences with friends and family.β β
β β 3. Get user-Generated Contentβ β
As your business grows, customers will start creating & sharing content about your business. It could be an Instagram post of them wearing an outfit you made, or a blog post on their website where they rave about your products.β β

Relationships take work and the one you have with your business is no exception. It can be hard especially during difficult times, to keep up the same energy and enthusiasm you once felt for your business.β
With the harsh economic environment in a country like ours, it can be difficult to keep up the enthusiasm. Yes you have the passion but the reality of the business dawns on you. At times like this, you need to stratigize and people to brainstorm with so you can see things with fresh eyes. When you do, you begin to love your business again. I know because I’ve been there.
If you take out time to work on your business, youβll eventually start achieving the results you want.β

Loyalty programs have proven themselves to be a powerful means of increasing sales and motivating customer loyalty. And even if you do not have a formalized loyalty programme, what do you do for your current customers that you do not do for outsiders?
.
.
For example, at Martwayne, our students are our priority and we go all out for them to help them succeed in their chosen ventures. Even those that have left still call us for assistance with setting up and referrals. We have also had events in the past where alumni get a discount by virtue of having come to Martwayne. .
.
For our clients @garmentproductionhouse, we set up @gphmall to help them sell their products and we market them at every opportunity we get. .
.
The reality is it costs a lot more to get a hold of new customers than it does to sell to existing customers. That is why it is essential you use marketing and other tactics such as loyalty programs to retain existing customers and encourage them to make repeat purchases, especially if you have a clothing line. But it also cuts acrss different areas of the industry.
β
With a customer loyalty program all you have to do is offer benefits to frequent customers. Those benefits may be in the form of freebies, discounts, cash-back, gift cards, or other valuable incentives.β
β
Create an attractive loyalty program for your business, publicize it, make it available to existing customers and watch your sales shoot up over time.β The best part is, it not only helps you retain customers but attract new ones as well.β
Why don't we put Made in Nigeria on our clothes if they are made here? Some factories like ours do great production! What do you think the reasons are and what can be done to change things? Could it be because people will not buy the clothes if they discover it was made in Nigeria? Or do designers specifically ask for this? Or did it never occur to us?
I know we are also guilty of this. No designer we have worked for has ever requested for us not to put 'Made in Nigeria' but we have never suggested it either. It honestly never occurred to me though at a recent business consultation, we did mention it to the lady. Yes we do business consultations and strategy sessions for fashion businesses as well for a fee. You can inbox me if you are interested. And we are building her website as well. I really should begin to promote this.
But back to this, β£I posted this on various social media channels and wow the responses were shocking to say the least. Here is just some of the feedback I received on the question. I know there is a general perception about goods made in Nigeria but it appears the problem goes deeper than just quality.
The Nigerian fashion industry is getting stronger but we're still far from where we need to be. When it comes to production, we are only scratching the surface, the numerous challenges we're faced with such as shortage of electric power supply, devaluation of Naira and foreign exchange issues have contributed massively to this.
It is quite sad that though there is a lot of good work out there, we choose to still patronize foreign goods. Yes price is always a factor but the truth is when I used to produce clothes in China, they were not that cheap. Production will always be cheaper than trading because they are unique to us. Except you choose to produce in thousands or buy off their catalogue (which is still trading), the clothes can never be cheap!
So let's discuss... As a buyer, would you buy an item clearly stated Made in Nigeria? Why or why not?
As a designer or production house, do you put Made in Nigeria on your clothes? If you do, tell us why? If you don't, tell us why not?

Great ideas come and go, often they come in unexpected moments of inspiration. But what do you do when you need to come up with fresh ideas? How do you jumpstart the ideation process?
Here are a few ways to open up your mind and get your creative juices flowing.β
A change of scenery will do you a lot of good. Itβll help stimulate your senses, decrease stress, get your blood flowing and before you know it you'll probably be able to generate creative ideas.β
Fun Fact: Einstein walked on the beach when he needed to work out complex problems.β
2) Socialize more
Go out, meet new people, attend events, talk to people in and outside your industry or strike up conversations with customers youβre familiar with.β
Itβll help you learn more, generate new ideas and refresh your perspective.β
3) Keep an Idea Journal
You can never really predict the exact moment when a great idea will come to you, that's why it is essential to have a journal where you can record them.β Write everything down! No matter how silly it may appear. It helps you remember and develop fresh ideas from past recorded ones.β
4) Travel
βThe more you travel, the more learned you areβ β this old saying has proven to be true. And it doesn't have to be outside the country either. Travelling helps you generate new ideas, knowledge and gain insight previously unattainable.β
5) Try out market research
Market research can prove invaluable in generating new ideas. Itβll help you find out exactly what your target market wants, key services/products you should be offering and how to get ahead of the competition.β
The best ideas come to you when youβre taking a shower or randomly surfing the web. For me, it will be when taking a shower, driving or praying. And thatβs okay! The important thing is to find what works for you. But it's also key not to try tooooo hard. All thoughts and ideas become elusive when you try too hard.
One thing I have also noticed, at least I can speak for myself, is that the best eureka ideas come from your frustration and your pain points. Think of something that really really upsets you! A real nag for you and that could just be it!
I have said this story too many times. I went into fashion because I was tired of my tailor wrecking my clothes. I said I would learn it and come back to teach her! And that was it!
My sister came up with an idea of a food app because she never understood what the ingredients on her food labels were. And really that is how it is. Your best ideas come to you when you least expect it! So be prepared when they come!
